GM Submission thing

So far apparently we have some fantasy games, something steampunky, Matt has swiped Doctor Who and/or Icons, Irn GM which at this point I might win by default and for which I'm holding off prepping a Doctor Who adventure because it seems like a fair bet to keep that in reserve, Gar I believe running Primeval and The Laundry with Charles Stross there...

And I need something for Buffy to Versus.

Current forerunners include Ragnarok, Arthurian Mythology, Pirates, Predator, The Hulk, The Mummy, The 1960s, and... Buffy.

Normally I resist the temptation to click spoilery links for location pictures of Doctor Who episodes, unless it's "first look at the return of a classic monster" or something, but this one made me click. It's not really spoilery beyond revealing a setting, probbaly an important one judging by the complexity of filming it brings, and which the title of the link reveals. So if you want to know the magic word, look at the link title. Or my tags for this post.

Conpulsion. It's nine weeks to it. Aaagh.

So about time to come up with the all-important "hey you, play my adventure" pitch blurbs. They have to be short, pithy, relatively accurate, and for games I'll be able and ideally happy to GM in two months' time.

I only have to come up with one game to GM this year, as one of the events this year is IRN GM, in which you get three GURPS setting books at random on Saturday and have to run an adventure using bits of all three on Sunday. So that's my Doctor Who adventure sorted probably...

So I dunno, Buffy or Adventure! or somethin' on Saturday.

While leaving room to play Gar's Primeval demo hopefully. The Laundry game with Charles Stross there will probably be rather busy.

Right then. Playing Icons and running Doctor Who, as the brand-new player looked like she'd be keener on something lightish than Vampire quite possibly being darker than the pits of Hell.

Offer Doctor Who of a Sunday afternoon, as 'tis simple and from here to exam time makes a thirteen-episode series pretty well.

Bring my Vampire books the first week, just in case.

All a bit steampunk, innit?

Rory got his name in the credits!

SHARK!

Ahhh, double meaning, clever.

Peculiar. Bit convoluted. But fun.

Cavaliers!

Nazis!

A green Ood?!

Dragonmeet was lovely. Getting back rather less so. But being an hour and twenty minutes late on a packed train full of drunk Newcastle fans for the last two hours ain't as bad as not being able to get back at all would have been.

Got to meet Ian Livingstone, the man responsible for my first gaming type experience (City Of Thieves, which I now have a signed copy of the new edition of), Robin D. Laws, Kenneth Hite, Andrew Peregrine, Jeff Combos... as a result, my signed stuff bag was rather heavy. And Alex Jurkat wasn't even there but I still got a signed limited-edition Buffy rulebook at the auction. (I never got the limited edition when it was out, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.)

C7's new game, by Gar, is Primeval. Sweeeeet.

Hope everybody made (or makes) it back okay.

Aliens And Creatures for Doctor Who arrived today, preordered back when. It's as far as I can tell unchanged since the pdf release in the summer, so it still doesn't include monsters from the last three specials, but hey, I don't need them as the game's lighter than a feather, and it's here, on shelves, and has the nice 2005 Daleks on the box.

Since it's so far drawn zero comment, a reminder that I yammer about gaming a bit more over here.

Yes, I called it The Watch House.

Also out there, and this drawing comment due to plugs at the DWAITAS officially unofficial forum, my Who gaming miniblog.

One of the downsides of international travel is missing relevant routine stuff. By way of example, this week's Whitechapel Remake/Remodel closed ten hours before I thought to check it, and is relevant to my interests.

Imagined Thirteenth Doctors who look like Paterson Joseph, Bill Nighy, Paul Bettany, Tilda Swinton, Amanda Palmer... I would particularly point to Pia Guerra's entry due to the fully-developed new TARDIS console and the special guest appearance by Sally Sparrow.

I'll discuss the not-irrelevant Who panels at Worldcon at some point in the foreseeable future.

Why?

British writers (and, in all fairness, an Australian writer-artist) at the World SF Convention. Doy.

Well, now that I'm sure to mess Grab New Players Day at GEAS I naturally have some more viable game ideas. Like an Icons game where the PCs are among the first Golden Age superheroes, and get to define what their superhero universe is like.

But blah. Also thinking about whether I'm really cruel enough to inflict me playing the Doctor on Matt's poor unsuspecting Doctor Who game.

And if I am, who to cast as the Doctor...

Pointless cast-the-Doctor rambling )

The Clock Strikes Thirteen

See also the DWAITAS forum repost which gets less views but more comments.

The first minute and 46 seconds of this is the musical cue cited.

Ending the game proved to be a good call as I haven't been able to get two of the players to rub together all summer. Still, GMing a Christmas special would have been fun.

The Storm Of Never

Featuring Dalek Storm, Flood Cybermen and (slightly less amazingly) 90s video Sontarans.

Now that it's in a not-actively-horrible location, I don't mind spending £2.50 to get in to Claymore and look at trade stalls and be in no danger of playing anything nearly as much as I used to. (Although this year I could have, if the half-hour Dalek skirmish game hadn't been so popular.)

Also got the new Conpulsion flier. My scepticism about the big Saturday night event being a ceilidh with attached LARP has been noted. And how the heck am I gonna make a figure of next year's Gryphon, I do not know...
