Now on DA and in the hands of Phil who bought the original at auction before all the parts had arrived!

... is online.

If you want to go specifically to me not thanking nearly enough people but also somehow not swearing like a crazy homeless person, start at 6.30 and play till about 11.10.

I already have a new idea for a novelty film titles round for another pub quiz. You have been warned, Conpulsion attendees...

(Actually I can think of a few easy ones for it.)

That's Conpulsion done for another year.

For those who want to experience 3/8 of the Conpulsion Pub Quiz by me in the safety of their own homes, go here.

For those who don't, I still appreciate the traffic.

And thanks to Simon for presenting and Cat for aiding and scoring and making it run.

My Buffy game for Conpulsion was going to be about a ghost-hunting reality show, but I see the Dead Of Night game is about a ghost-hunting reality show.

Therefore, thinking of changing it, but what to?

For reference, last year's winner was Evil Buffy, following the previous year's silly-as-possible easy-to-run Godzilla.

Other options considered include Ragnarok, Arthurian Mythology, Pirates, Predator, The Hulk, The Mummy, and The 1960s.

Doctor Who is already up against 2012, so that's taken...

Right then. Five points (out of fifty or sixty or so) at the Conpulsion pub quiz will be determined by Indiana Jones And The Title Round in which contestants have to work out the original character name in a movie title which has been replaced by Indiana Jones.

So, easy example, Indiana Jones And The Philosopher's Stone. If you can't get that one, I believe you have to be thrown out of Edinburgh.

Of course these will all be answers where replacing the titular character with Indiana Jones would make a cool movie. But then this is the case with most movies.

It could also be applied to books, as it is in that example - Chris oft joked/threatened running Indiana Jones And The Mountains Of Madness - but let's keep it simple.

And yes, this is also how I write Buffy convention adventures.

(What would Indy hunting for the Philosopher's Stone be like? Obviously there are rivals looking for it as well, a mysterious figure who may be immortal, and probably a clue in a castle in Scotland which is now a boarding school.

And that's not the weirdest put-Indy-in-a-movie idea I ever had. That would be Indiana Jones And The Last Of England. Indy travels to London during the Blitz to help the removal of key works from the British Museum, and discovers a mysterious map on the back of a Durer painting of the Virgin Mary. Teaming up with a brilliant art historian (Tilda Swinton) he travels first to Switzerland, a hotbed of intrigue, and then to partially occupied Norway in search of a prophecy that might mean the Allies cannot win the War!)

The main problems being (1) it's be less than three months after Conpulsion and (2) the end of the academic year varies from person to person. But y'know, a last-weekend-on-average Saturday twelve-hour thingy would seem doable.

We even have a title.

Repulsion.

... I'm still quite tired.

This time I'm sure people had fun. Or were so sugared up and caffeinated we couldn't tell.

Despite me and another GM in my category putting the representative from Stirling at the top (which was totally not motivated by location, for reals!) they were beaten to second due to a third place in the final category, by Cardiff.

"Cardiff, huh? You could totally do a Torchwood tour while you're down there..."
"AAAAAAAAAAAGHH"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"... Win."

So that was Conpulsion. Good game as GM, good game as player, okay...ish game as GM, stormed the pub quiz, offered to do it next year to maintain my amateur status, raised 80-odd with the toy gryphon, tired now.

Hello Joe!

With three days to go, I've finally seen the Conpulsion ad on RPGnet.

Buffy Versus... Buffy?

Thanks to all who suggested possible Versues-es for Buffy to Versus.

My other Conpulsion game that I do not (and indeed cannot!) actually have ready is IRN GM assuming it goes ahead. Odds are it'll be Doctor Who for obvious reasons, unless it isn't. Failing that, I may colonise one of the two-hour gaps and do something else.

For a shot at Gar's Primeval game.

Since it's during the ceilidh-LARP hybrid I was planning to give it a miss. Maybe I can get someone there to phone bid for me...
craigoxbrow: (Buffy)
Well, finally put in my Buffy Conpulsion synopsis. The winner is... Evil Buffy.

In the meantime, do some good. Best wishes NZers.

GM Submission thing

So far apparently we have some fantasy games, something steampunky, Matt has swiped Doctor Who and/or Icons, Irn GM which at this point I might win by default and for which I'm holding off prepping a Doctor Who adventure because it seems like a fair bet to keep that in reserve, Gar I believe running Primeval and The Laundry with Charles Stross there...

And I need something for Buffy to Versus.

Current forerunners include Ragnarok, Arthurian Mythology, Pirates, Predator, The Hulk, The Mummy, The 1960s, and... Buffy.

This cold is as nothing compared to my last cold. Nothing!

Although the effect on my sleep patterns does mean that when I saw Dave Mc In town last night I was unusually forthright about my concerns over GMing only one preplanned adventure at Conpulsion.

Off to try and sleep now. Hopefully I'll be up in time for Marchlands starting at 9pm. Tomorrow.

Conpulsion. It's nine weeks to it. Aaagh.

So about time to come up with the all-important "hey you, play my adventure" pitch blurbs. They have to be short, pithy, relatively accurate, and for games I'll be able and ideally happy to GM in two months' time.

I only have to come up with one game to GM this year, as one of the events this year is IRN GM, in which you get three GURPS setting books at random on Saturday and have to run an adventure using bits of all three on Sunday. So that's my Doctor Who adventure sorted probably...

So I dunno, Buffy or Adventure! or somethin' on Saturday.

While leaving room to play Gar's Primeval demo hopefully. The Laundry game with Charles Stross there will probably be rather busy.

Now that it's in a not-actively-horrible location, I don't mind spending £2.50 to get in to Claymore and look at trade stalls and be in no danger of playing anything nearly as much as I used to. (Although this year I could have, if the half-hour Dalek skirmish game hadn't been so popular.)

Also got the new Conpulsion flier. My scepticism about the big Saturday night event being a ceilidh with attached LARP has been noted. And how the heck am I gonna make a figure of next year's Gryphon, I do not know...
