We already have a Resistance era X-Wing starter set from FFG, and now individual fighters... hoping for more. A lot more. An Armada set for the big ships seems likely. A miniatures skirmish game like Imperial Assault could be great, especially with single miniatures and vehicles. The other eras have had various 25/28/30mm miniatures lines, and the IA miniatures are very nice and look great painted up, albeit by a better painter than me...

And RPG material? Fingers crossed... and I don’t even like their system.

(Their latest RPG launch, this week, is a book on Jedi Guardians, featuring Kanan and the Ghost from Rebels.)

In other tie-ins we’ve had a lot of bridging stories, and some looking back connecting to Rebels in particular. Now I expect to see Resistance era stories start to appear. Some of our new heroes have had adventures already, so they could star in books and comics easily.

Vampire: The Miniatures

Nosferatu-type Ghouls here. In hoodies (like Hunters in Left 4 Dead) and clambering out of sewers. Found while searching idly for Buffy miniatures, through here.

Not that I use miniatures (a) more than about once every five years or (b) ever for World Of Darkness games, but I still likes the toys, I does...

Nosferatu are the trickiest clan to get suitable figures for, of course, although there are plenty of original Nosferatu Orlok himself. Mantic Ghouls are lovely multipart figures for less modern examples.

The other clans can be represented by regular miniatures painted with an undead pallor and dark clothes - trenchcoats and katanas optional.

Ral Partha actually produced official classic World Of Darkness miniatures, most of whom seemed to have their arms in the air for some reason. I got the Tremere two-pack and never got around to painting them. RAFM meanwhile produced the, er, not dissimilar Fantastique Noir: Vampyre line - the Nosferatu gangster inspired a character in a game a while later. For the new World Of Darkness there are only the clan miniatures for the boardgame Prince Of The City based on the first edition Requiem clan characters.

Were I so inclined, I’d start with this list...

(And for the record, Hasslefree, Artizan and Character Options provided miniatures for The Watch House...)

Now on DA and in the hands of Phil who bought the original at auction before all the parts had arrived!

LEGO Monster Fighters

Playing the classic horror crossover for laughs, as well as for toys.

I particularly like that the villainous plot was actually attempted in Vampire: The Masquerade back in the day. And Lord Vampyre's clearly annoyed bride.

(And just did the math on the parts I'd need to make TWH characters... about ten to twelve quid each.)

When I was eight, we moved to the US for a year's cultural exchange. One of the first things I got was Snake-Eyes from the very first run of 3 3/4" GI Joe figures. Still have him. I got an assortment of the toys and a fair old run of the comics as well.

So seeing The Rise Of Cobra was a pretty childhood-kicking experience, even after two years' warning and not paying for it.

And pretty recent-things-I-like kicking as well, with Christopher Eccleston (and his Scottish accent - oh, and apparently our language is called Celtic) and Joseph Gordon Levitt as the villains, and the director of The Mummy proving once again that his work is a perfect inverse of budget and quality, rubbing it in by having Brandan Fraser in one scene while the admittedly-convincingly-piece-of-plastic Channing Tatum stars in what appears to be a joke-removal live-action remake of Team America.

Oh, and let's not start on the thing with the Baroness.

So that was Conpulsion. Good game as GM, good game as player, okay...ish game as GM, stormed the pub quiz, offered to do it next year to maintain my amateur status, raised 80-odd with the toy gryphon, tired now.

Hello Joe!

Now that it's in a not-actively-horrible location, I don't mind spending £2.50 to get in to Claymore and look at trade stalls and be in no danger of playing anything nearly as much as I used to. (Although this year I could have, if the half-hour Dalek skirmish game hadn't been so popular.)

Also got the new Conpulsion flier. My scepticism about the big Saturday night event being a ceilidh with attached LARP has been noted. And how the heck am I gonna make a figure of next year's Gryphon, I do not know...

Superlative stuff, hilarious and touching, adorable little crazy kid who reminds me of much-loved family, I've got something in my eye. But now I've expressed the same feelings as everyone else in the audience I'll try and add a personal touch to this response, I'll add that when Woody lost his hat and got it back while hatching the rescue they didn't do an Indiana Jones bit. Weird.

Preceding short was nice and clever but not a gut-buster.

1: I just discovered with a day to go that the kids' Doctor Who comic has five plastic miniatures-scale-ish New Paradigm Daleks as this week's free gift. Yoink. (And I don't even use miniatures or much like the New Dalek Paradigm, but they're too toyetic not to want to grab them and paint them up.)

2: New pretty SW:TOR trailer featuring slomo Jedi parkour and Sith mooks being casually knocked over by non-Force-y soldiers. The character designs do look a bit too similar to the prequel era for a game set a thousand years earlier, and it's an advert for an MMO which will actually look like this, but hey.

3: Al-Rashad page two. I await... monsters or something.

4: The IT Crowd is back next Friday - and Moss is learning the d20 System.

It's ToyFair in New York, apparently, so while looking to see what they had I found this.

Rerelease Space Hulk

And yes, it'll cost about as much as nWFRP for a big box, a bunch of special dice and counters. But it's a game that should have a big box and special dice and counters. So there.

Despite not caring (see below) I went along to Claymore, partially because it has moved to the new Telford College building and the last time I was in there it was still being built.

Quite nice it is too.

Saw a couple folk, and [livejournal.com profile] boxninja challenged me to do this review.

So here we are. )

So there you go. As ever, it encouraged me to make my Conpulsion games that bit more drop-in-friendly.

... Huh.

Apparently this year's Claymore starts in... six and a half hours' time.

Good thing I don't care, eh?
