Jun. 1st, 2010 05:25 pmThe results of this year's Edinburgh 48 Hour Film Project were announced last night.
The winner was a Spanish magic realist fantasy.
All the films, including my two-line-and-playing-dead appearance in one, will hopefully be on the YouTube soonish.

I saw myself on the big screen this evening. I was in the background and kinda out of focus. So I played my part well, I feel.
But anyway, I also went to see Drag Me To Hell because it was on at the same screen immediately thereafter, and I was gonna do it soon anyway.
It's the best riff on a certain classic horror story I've seen in a decade. If I say which one, you'll know half the twists. But they do a nice drama addition to the idea, as well as some big Yes-I-Made-Evil-Dead-II shocks. It also isn't scary at all despite being touted as "the most terrifying movie of the decade" unless the quoted line creeps you out, because this is one of the all-time great "Oh God! Did I get any of it in my mouth?!" films. If you have issues with getting icky stuff in your mouth, stay away. Otherwise, it's a fun ride.

48 Hours Later
May. 24th, 2009 09:17 pmSo this year at the 48 Hour Film Project, I ended up doing some mute acting and some lighting, because the team leader who pounced on me (as opposed to the ones who knew me and said hi) misheard me when I said I wanted to do writing. :D
Shooting about four minutes (after cutting about two more) took the better part of eight hours yesterday, which could provide lots of lessons in filmmaking.
My big screen debut (not counting the shot in Jude where I'm not actually visible) will be at the Cameo on Thursday evening, and I can probably get it on DVD from somewhere if you wish to point and laugh at me privately.

With a thing tomorrow, which is free and stuff.
(Meanwhile, my printer is now not printing black at all. This is a tad inconvenient for Conpulsion handouts and stuff...)

48 Hours Later
May. 18th, 2008 09:51 pmSo, in the end, neither of the 48 Hour Film Project teams that were headhunting me needed me - or handed their films in before the deadline. ;)
Stills helped with one team's editing, another team managed to get someone else to transfer their DV free, one team ended up being one person.
I helped Sam and Louisa, the organisers, with the naturally-somewhat chaotic hand-in procedure.
I'll get to see half the films on the Cameo screen on Wednesday, and hopefully catch the rest via the wonders of DVD and/or intarnetz.
And next year... oh, yes, my people, Next Year...

The standard to which to aim
May. 16th, 2008 12:00 amSo tonight begins Edinburgh's first shot at the 48 Hour Film Project, where I may or may not end up helping a team, or the project producers.
Timecatcher is the top 48 Hour Film from 2007. It is, in point of fact, really pretty bloody good.
