Oh, Mugger
Dec. 19th, 2003 08:02 pmMy Christmas shopping odyssey nears its end. Admittedly I got something pretty random for my brother's girlfriend, and I'm abdicating all responsibility on getting something for my grandmother, but the end is in sight at last. However, one thing eludes me. A mug.
coffee_lifeform put mugs at the top of her Christmas list just under "make me something", so I thought, hey, I'll make her something and get her a mug. How hard can that be...?
Her list specifies the shape should be square-ish and, rather than checking what she means, I naturally assumed she meant square-based, like one of the mugs in the kitchen and, as it turns out, no other mugs anywhere in Edinburgh.
So I tried department stores - hardly any mugs of any shape or size. Entire five-floor stores with no mugs at all. And also some pretty unclear floorplans, in one case.
I checked coffee shops. Nope. Round-based cylindrical mugs of much coffee holding goodness, not a problem. Those hemispherical Friends-style café cups, plenty. Square-based mugs - nope.
And finally, I remembered and checked the Dedicated Mugs And Tableware Place on Marshall Street. Lots of mugs. None matching this mental image.
So I fear it would have to be a round-based mug, and thus fail to meet the ideal.
Unless, of course, that isn't what she meant. Which is a distinct possibility.
So I'll probably get her a CD.
