We laughed, we cried...
Jan. 20th, 2009 06:42 pmWe came in our dozens, maybe hundreds, to see it on a big screen near the university. It was a fine and moving speech.
There were some choking up, cheers and applause at the the end.
So why the laugh? Well, during this section...
"As for our common defence, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our founding fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake."
... the BBC cut to Former President Bush sitting and looking uncomfortable.
Perfect timing. Gotta love that.

The BBC reports that the Scottish Tories plan to put a 280 mph MONORAIL between Glasgow and Edinburgh
Which will supposedly cut the journey to eight minutes.
Now, if I could get from one side of Princes Street to the other on the bus in eight minutes I might be less skeptical.
