Apparently something of interest will be on BBC1 tomorrow at 6.30, between Total Wipeout and Dance For Sport Relief.

By "something of interest" I mean a new trailer. Eeee!

So I'm considering doing a "next time" trailer for my Doctor Who PBP. Not a title sequence, unless we do get AfterEffects at work in the spring as there's been talk of doing, but one of those bits with clips. But I hit the snag that Strange isn't available on DVD, so getting Richard Coyle looking dark and mysterious and slightly mad is more difficult than I might have expected. And that Emilie Dequenne hasn't done any English-language material except a drama set in 18th Century Spain. and that Joe Gilgun's CV is distinctly unhelpful. And...

Anyway, watching The Fifth Element last night and a thread on RPGnet comparing the Reavers in Serenity to Orcs has collided in my head, and I now want to cut together a trailer for Lord Of The Rings with the same cast - but set in the present.

It stirred up ye olde idea of modern LOTR with Ringwraiths as the assassins with glowing red night-vision goggles from the start of The Peacemaker. Use the Reavers idea, because it means Orcs With Guns. Mordor may or may be the asteroid from Armageddon.

Of course, then there's finding the cast in suitable modern looks. Frodo would be easy enough - just decide whether to use The Faculty or Everything Is Illuminated. Likewise Aragorn - choose between A History Of Violence and Hidalgo. Gandalf should really have a beard, otherwise X-Men would be simplest. Sam could be from that post-apocalypse TV show he did, Merry from Lost. No idea for Pippin - the main thing Billy Boyd has done since is a comedy about house clearances. Boromir, simple, The Hitcher. Legolas is tricky, since Orlando Bloom rarely appears in anything set in the last three centuries. Gimli we'd probably have to skip, as Sallah just ain't the same. Saruman would be easy if I cheat and use Count Dooku, but it's not exactly a normal outfit. If the killer asteroid is Mordor, Arwen is included on the DVD as well, and Elrond could always wear sunglasses.

Doubtless won't get round to it, but the notion amuses me in passing.
