Hulk Fail To Surprise
Jun. 13th, 2008 08:09 pmWell, no, that's not quite true. I was surprised three times in 100 minutes. Once by a particular expression the Big Green CGI Standin pulled, once by the possibility of soldiers not escaping a bit of smashing, and once by the positioning of a wider-Marvel-Movieverse Easter Egg before the credits. (I'd have put it earlier still, myself, so that the story could end with a scene actually involving the main character.)
Some of the framing is nice. But ultimately the Hulk just doesn't look that good as played by a big chunk of CGI. I do wonder if advances in makeup and some perspective tricks with added CG manipulation wouldn't have worked better than what is, essentially, just a CG depiction of a big muscly green bloke.
Other than that, it's just what you'd expect and nothing more. Which is not a complaint you could level at the went-too-far-the-other-way Don't Make Me Ang Lee.
But hey, Hulk Hands are back in shops.
