This week I saw the video for the debut single from Billy Corgan's new band for the first time.
It's a pretty cheerful song, certainly by Smashing Pumpkins standards.
And Billy Corgan was smiling.
And, as Chris noted, "not a wistful melancholic smile either".
Billy Corgan, notorious pasty-faced spectre of the indie scene, author of "We Only Come Out At Night", subject of jokes among Vampire fans about his video appearances being breaches of the Masquerade, hanging around with his new band as though chatting about normal everyday things and sharing a joke.
It's great that he's happy and all, but as image changes go it's rather unexpected.
