Gangs Of New York
Jan. 10th, 2003 07:53 pmI rushed off to see it this afternoon, at a cinema so independent it had to have an intermission in a film of a mere 2 and 3/4 hours.
It's huge, sprawling, noisy, brutal, insane, hilarious, disgusting stuff. It makes me want to run Victorian Age: Vampire even more than I already did, and provides enough details that it could count as a good sourcebook in and of itself.
It's not as strong as Goodfellas, because it all boils down to one of the old, old stories, but it could well stay high on my films of the year list for the next 344 days...
